Hitachi Energy advances its digital substation tech with the SAM600 3.0, a versatile Process Interface Unit (PIU). It aids transmission utilities in swift digital substation adoption. The SAM600 integrates three units into one, serving as a merging unit, switchgear control unit, or a hybrid. This streamlines engineering, wiring, testing, and commissioning into a single device, enhancing flexibility and maintainability. As a merging unit, SAM600 expedites conventional substation upgrades by converting analog signals to digital, ensuring improved safety, cost-effectiveness, smaller footprints, and enhanced sustainability. Additionally, as a switchgear control unit, SAM600 directly interfaces with field equipment, minimizing wiring to the control building through an IEC 61850 digital interface.
“As the complexity and dynamics of power generation, transmission, and distribution continue to grow, modern digital substations provide the control and efficiency needed to address these challenges. The new SAM600 helps operators extend the life of their existing assets, delivering much-needed investment protection and new levels of system performance,” said Claus Vetter, Head of Automation and Communication at Hitachi Energy.
